kernel 2.6.29 and black screen

Video - Rage 128 PF/PRO AGP 4x TMDS server: XFree86 (r128)
Monitor - LG Flatron L1919S
Xorg 1.6

I had black screen on my LG after I had upgraded kernel from 2.6.28 to 2.6.29. I couldn't even switch to console Alt-F1...
I downgraded kernel back to 2.6.28 and everything was ok.
What is wrong with new kernel?

I have the same problem with my Rage 128 card.
After upgading to kernel 2.6.29 and Xorg 1.6 I get a black screen when I start the X-server.

Over here, in a fresh install over ftp, it behaves nicely, no errors at all. Maybe it has something to do with kdm ?

Also, I think you could try and comment out some font paths that don't exist, also type1 and freetype modules. Try starting your DE or WM with console login (startx), see what happens.

If you all are using any custom video drivers from aur or elsewhere they need to be rebuilt for the new kernels.

If you cant get to a console boot with the live cd, mount your root partition and undo whatever you did to start kdm. When you are done with compiling drivers use inittab to start kdm so that you always have a console available next time.

You should also try to rename xorg.conf to xorg.old and startx because new xorg does not require xorg.conf anymore, at least if u got your x working you know where the problem is...

I tried to start the X-server with startx instead of using kdm, but the problem still exits. I also tried to start X without an xorg.conf, but I had the same problem.

If I use the vesa driver instead of the r128 driver, I can start the X-server.

I think it is a problem with the kernel module drm or r128:
