OSS4 broken by update

Hello,

I did a pacman -Syu yesterday, and when I booted up this morning sound no longer works. I get this when I try to turn it on manually:

[robert@arch ~]$ sudo /etc/rc.d/oss start
:: Starting Open Sound System [BUSY] mv: cannot stat `/dev/snd': No such file or directory
ERROR: Module snd_hda_codec_realtek is in use
ERROR: Module snd_hda_intel is in use
ERROR: Module snd_hda_codec is in use by snd_hda_codec_realtek,snd_hda_intel
ERROR: Module snd_hwdep is in use by snd_hda_codec
ERROR: Module snd_pcm is in use by snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec
ERROR: Module snd_timer is in use by snd_pcm
ERROR: Module snd_page_alloc is in use by snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
ERROR: Module snd_hda_codec_realtek is in use

And this when I try ossmix:

[robert@arch ~]$ sudo ossmix
/dev/mixer: No such file or directory

OSS was working very well for me previously, so I'd rather not have to switch to another sound system. Any ideas?

Re: OSS4 broken by update

just reinstall the OSS package. It runs a script that removes(?) alsa modules from /lib/modules

Re: OSS4 broken by update

Blacklist soundcore so ALSA won't start when you install a new kernel and it puts the ALSA modules back. As long as ALSA isn't loaded, the OSS initscript will automatically compile and load new modules for you the first time you boot a new kernel without them.
