Issue booting, flashes random colors?

Hey everyone,

Ive had my install up and running now for like a week and a half. Last night I turned off my system perfectly normal, now when I went to start it up today it went crazy. Basically, the only daemon that fails to start is alsa (which mentions something about using default settings instead) , and the rest of them start normally. When x starts It flashes black a few times then I get all of these random colors in no particular pattern.

Any ideas on what I would have to do? If I could just get to a terminal I think Id be able to figure it out. Anyway to get to runlevel 3 and stop the full boot process?

Thinking I might reinstall at this point, but It would be annoying.

Thanks.

Try putting 1 in the kernel line in grub  to go to single user mode.

Or you could simply boot up a livecd  and review the config files, especially xorg.conf
