freeze ups in the first 5 minutes

Hi I have a minor problem that is starting to really bug me. My comp starts fine, but most of the time if I move anything in the first 5 minutes after I login everything freezes and I have to do a hard restart. I have searched for a cause , updated everything, but I am lost. If there is anything in the logs, I cant see it. I have a hd3750 running the latest xorg, catalyst and gnome as the desktop. But this isnt a new problem, its been happening since I installed Arch a few months ago, its just getting worse. If someone has an idea, or even a page that would help in tracking down whats going on I thank you.

I trust Microsoft about as far as I can comfortably spit a dead rat.

Hard to tell. This could as well be a hardware problem. Looks that way because it got worse over time.
Any chance to find out if this is Arch specific?
Perhaps check with a live CD of another distribution.

Did you run a memory check lately?

Re: freeze ups in the first 5 minutes

After testing the ram and finding nothing wrong I checked all the connections in the computer, still did it. I then swapped out the video card, and installed another and the issue stopped. While I love my hd3870, I have found an unexceptionable bug. I will only be able to stand the noise the replacement makes for so long. The 9600 gso is loud, at least it didnt cost anything.

You say 'move anything ' but what does that mean?

Click on a file, an open nautilus or browser window and attempt to drag/move it. I have a feeling its an ATI issue. Because when I put the nvidia card in the problem vanished. Its just the nvidia card cooling fan is loud, its days are numbered.
