[solved] Upgrade failing for a package called device-mapper

Hi All,

I am using archlinux in a VirtualBox to get used to it. Now, I tried to upgrade (after a month or so) with following command

pacman -Syu

I get following errors

error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package)
device-mapper-1.02.31-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz is invalid or corrupted
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded

Any help is welcome.

regards,
rangalo

You should have been asked to delete the corrupt package there so just try downloading it again.   If not, remove for /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ and try again.  Otherwise, try a different mirror.

Re: [solved] Upgrade failing for a package called device-mapper

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response... I am given the choice to remove the package but it still complains about it being corrupted..

I also deleted it manually and running the update again gives following.

:: File device-mapper-1.02.31-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz is corrupted. Do you want to delete it? [Y/n] Y
error: failed to commit transaction (invalid or corrupted package)
device-mapper-1.02.31-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz is invalid or corrupted
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.

Probably a problem with the mirror you're using, either it's updating while you're trying to sync or there is a problem. Switch to another mirror (albeit temporarily) and the problem will be gone - or you can wait.

I'd be trying a different mirror along with a "pacman -Syy" to force a db refresh.

Just edit /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlists so a different mirror is listed first. The temporary part just means you can probably change it back at some later time.

Re: [solved] Upgrade failing for a package called device-mapper

Hi,

I did it and the upgrade worked.

Now I stuck in to another problem. Now, my vbox display driver has version mis-match and X doesn't start. Should I open a new thread ?

Hardik
