Hello:
I have not been able to use gpm on my ACER Aspire One (AAO) with the touchpad.
gpm does work, however, when I attach an external usb mouse (that has 3-button capability).
What I just discovered is if I highlight text in xterm with the touchpad while holding down the left button, it grabs the text into the buffer. To paste it, however, I have to use the middle button of the USB mouse.
I am hotplugging.
I have read the wikis on the AAO, synaptic, and gpm as well as various posts regarding these topics. After reading them I:
- tried Xorg.conf variations suggested by the Wiki and failed to get one functioning because I could get no keyboard response
- tried the various HAL .fdi configurations suggested by the Wiki for the synaptic touchpad - touchpad seems to work O.K; still have to add the side scrolling but gpm still wasn't working
- edited the conf.d/gpm file to indicate the location of the touchpad discoved by running cat /proc/bus/input/devices | less
So far, no luck. Has anyone successfully configured gpm on an AAO?
Thanks,
Rob

Of course within a couple of hours of this post I figured it out.
I went to /etc/conf.d/gpm and added "-2" for two button mouse.
GPM_ARGS="-2 -m /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio2/input/input8""
Now I can paste by simultaneously clicking the left/right buttons.
