Virtual Consoles Missing

I am building a server on my AA1 netbook using a USB flashdrive. (I call it my "server on a stick":P.) It has no X, Gnome, KDE, etc. Yesterday I ran "pacman -Syu". It had probably been a week or two since last doing this. It installed kernel26 2.6.29.1-4 along with eight other package updates. I then ran a reboot and a my system has a few problems.

Mainly, I don't have any /dev/vc/* devices. This means that I can't log in from runlevel 3. I can boot to single user (S) and login, but I don't have my eth0 device. I don't know how to get this working so that I can check for more package updates. I can do a modprobe to load the driver, but don't know how to get eth0 created.

What creates these devices and when?

I notice that the kernel-headers and kernel26-firmware are slightly older. Is this ok?

I suppose it could be unrelated to the upgrade, but the system had been solid prior to this. Seems way too coincidental.

Re: Virtual Consoles Missing

I have the same problem after last kernel upgrade. Is there someone who knows the solution?

To know or not to know ...
... the questions remain forever.
