mkinitcpio borked - also reiserfs - help greatly appreciated

So my up-to-date arch install (64bit, kdemod, nothing too fancy) broke recently. I keep /home on a reiserfs partition which is shared by other OSes and it used to work fine. Recently it would mount and made give me enough time to do ls before hanging. Works fine from similar ubuntu system. Latest kernel was 2.6.28.8-1. Anyway I tried to fix it by adding reiserfs to my mkinitcpio.conf and now my kernel seems to have no modules at all. Does anyone know a)I can get my kernel fixed (I've tried fallback) b) What was up with it hanging on accessing my /home

ps. no modules means no internet so I have to do everything through ubuntu
Any ideas would be great.
