Re: xorg.conf

Search for this issue regarding the new intel drivers.  Don't have an intel here so I can't tell you what the fix is but I have seen it posted recently.

Re: xorg.conf

What is the output of 'cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log'   ??

I used to generate the xorg.conf first with 'Xorg -configure' and then change the file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' to my likings.

Re: xorg.conf

Thanks, i see a lot of intel issues but  i can't find my issue. When i did a startx i got 2 xterm windows and i had to restart my laptop the hard way to get it running again. When i do a: Xorg, my screen freezes and again a hard reboot is necessary.

Re: xorg.conf

Have you ever tried without xorg.conf? It is not needed.

Re: xorg.conf

Just removed /etc/X11/xorg.conf, logged off and then logged in again, tried to start the xserver but still nothing. When is start Xorg nothing happens, only a blank screen so i have to turn off my laptop with the power button. When i startx witch "startx" i get 2 xterm windows and that's, so i must restart my laptop again with the power button.

Re: xorg.conf

you need the hal daemon running if you have no xorg, for input hotplugging.

Add hal to the daemons line in /etc/rc.conf

Without hal running, X will come up but will not auto detect a keyboard or mouse, hence it will seem crashed.

Re: xorg.conf

Try and be a bit more specific, does xfce4 even start, are the messages in the gui or in the console?

Re: xorg.conf

Sorry for the bad explenation. Here's some more:

The errors are all in console. Xfce won't start.

This is the first error:  Unable to contact settings server, Failed to execute dbus-launch to autolaunch D-Bus session

This is the second error: Unable to load a failsafe session. Unable to determine failsafe session name.
