[SOLVED]Make firefox use 'current tab name' instead of 'navigator' in

Hi all :)

Since my switch to Arch I miss the detailed titlebar info within firefox.

Before it showed something like:
<Browser Name>:<current tab name> (<opened Session>)
for example
Mozilla Firefox: ./Slashdot (Newsreader)

now it only shows:
Navigator

I know I could probably solve it by hopping from one firefox build to the next hoping this certain build has exactly the type of titlebar i want, but I am more interested in learning how to modify the titlebar, because then i could make it even more useful than before switching to arch :)

Thanks for helping!
Arien

Re: [SOLVED]Make firefox use 'current tab name' instead of 'navigator' in

I am using Firefox 3.0.9
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.0.9) Gecko/2009042211 GranParadiso/3.0.9

my WM is Xmonad 0.8.1

testing is off

I suspected the fault lies with Firefox as I had Firefox running in xmonad 0.8.1 under Ubuntu 8.10 and 9.04 and both displayed the correct title

Try branding it. Or install firefox-pgo from my repo.

Re: [SOLVED]Make firefox use 'current tab name' instead of 'navigator' in

I tried the branded version, as well as swiftweasel and icecat etc...
all had the same problem. (which was the point where i gave up and though: "oh its just the title, who cares")

Strangely enough i found a fix to the problem by chance today.
Before today I had my system set to the en_DK.utf8 locale (because english is a cool universal language, but i could do very well without remntants of the British imperial measuring system within it)

Today yet another program complained about "unknown locale... blabla... falling back to C"
Which is why I switched to the en_US.utf8 locale just to see if it would help.

And voila!.... suddenly xmobar and dzen2 were working and as a bonus the firefox window was titles correctly.
Well I guess i will stay with the en_US locale and have to figure out how to convince it to respect SI and ISO instead of the old english empire smile

Maybe the en_DK.utf8 locale has not been generated on your computer?
Open /etc/locale.gen and make sure the locale you want is listed and does not have a '#' infront.
Run locale-gen then try switching back your locale.

I am 99.99% sure that i had correctly set up the en_DK.utf8 locale.
(I am so sure as i followed the beginners guide step by step in when i was installing arch last week)

you know the 1. properly editing /etc/locale.gen 2. running locale-gen as root and 3. set rc.conf to use your locale

The only margin of error would be when the X server's locale setting would not respect the rc.conf or if I had to do more than above three steps to ensure the proper locale got used.
