Core i7 Raid10 ICH10R

Hello. new to the forums but have been using archlinux for the past 5 or so years.
Havent had any bigger problems YET but this one.

So i got myself a new desktop finally.
Specs:

Asus P6T Deluxe
6GB Corsais 1600
4x Seagate 1.5TB Raid10
XFX GTX280 XXX
Intel Core i7 940

--------------------------

So firstly i found out when installing windows about the 2TB Master boot record limit.
So to work around this i created 2 arrays of the 4 disks. 2 Raid10 arrays. One sized 2TB and one sized 1TB.
Windows Vista / 7 both work fine.

Now then when i boot the install cd. Boots fine.
Fdisk -l only shows the drives and partitions twice ofcourse. (supposed to do that i believe.)

I then checked the wiki for the new features on 2009.2. using modprobe to get modules dm_mod and sata_sil in use.
then dmraid -ay BUT im erroring here. When i check /dev/mapper/ i see 4 volumes. which is odd.

i see
Volume0_0
Volume0_1
Volume1_0
Volume1_1

I dont exactly remeber the error line now since in writing this from the computer it errored on.
But it doesent work as it is supposed to.

So my question is. Has anyone succesfully installed Arch 32/64bit on this kind of setup or on ICH10R at all?

Thanks in advance smile

Re: Core i7 Raid10 ICH10R

I had a similar problem on a different system with RAID10 and dmraid.  I ended up just using LVM and mdadm to get my RAID 10 up and running, and it has been fine ever since.  I used this Wiki entry to get mine running.

Re: Core i7 Raid10 ICH10R

wouldnt this mean i would have to destroy my arrays?

This is what i really DONT want to do since ive been using the computer for 4months and have a lot of data on it i dont want to loose.

Re: Core i7 Raid10 ICH10R

Hi,

I just encountered the same issue and I may have a solution to the problem but I haven't tested it yet (it should work though). The problem is that the precompiled version of dmraid does not support fake Raid5 or Raid10 (stacked raids). However just recently the support has been enabled, but you will have to recompile dmraid for this.

The patch to include raid10 was included in dmraid-1.0.0 rc15 as shown here: http://bugs.gentoo.org/232062
Currently latest version is dmraid-1.0.0 rc16 so go ahead download that from http://people.redhat.com/heinzm/sw/dmraid/src/ compile and install instead of the default package. That should resolve the problem.

I will test this soon and will confirm if it works.

Edit: oops just seen the date of last post. Oh well... Might help others then... smile
