[Solved] Intel 82845G woes
I'm having troubles getting a fresh install of arch linux to start X successfully. All it gives me is a blank screen. It seems like no matter what I do I get back to the blank screen. To complicate the problem, the keyboard often locks up so I can't switch virtual terminals and continue playing around with it.
This computer encounters the same blank screen when attempting to start ubuntu jaunty, yet ran fine on previous versions of ubuntu. This makes me think that it is something related to xorg changes. However it's very likely that I just don't know what I'm doing. I can't seem to get even the vesa driver working.

can you specify "blank screen"? do you mean, all black? or console login?
and: which intel driver do you use? i have an intel 865 and i use the intel-legacy driver.
in your Xorg.0.log:

seems not to be a fatal error, but i'd outcomment the fbdev module in xorg.conf.

When I say blank screen I mean it changes from the console to an all black screen. No mouse pointer.
which intel driver do you use?
I've tried using the normal driver and the legacy. However, I'm not sure if I set up the legacy driver correctly when I tried it. I'll give it another go when I get the chance.

Try the xf86-video-intel-newest from the AUR. That was the only one that I could successfully get to work with Xorg 1.6 and kernel 2.6.29. You will need to work in the command line for a bit to get this fixed 
Ask if you need to....it's pretty straightforward.

I had seen the thread, and it didn't solve the keyboard problem at the time, although I've learned a lot about xorg.conf lately and I think I may have been doing things wrong.

I'm not really sure what suggestion did it, but I have working drivers again (Yeah!). Just for the record, running 'X -config /etc/X11/xorg.conf' never seemed to work (and still doesn't). I didn't realize everything was working until I'd just installed xfce and run startxfce. Maybe nothing was ever wrong in the first place.
