Restarting network causes X to crash

Hi. I'am experiencing this strange set of problems.
First my internet in arch is very slow, so I tested restarting the network with /etc/rc.d/network restart and it did the trick, now network works fine. But now if I start X with startx I only get black screen, everything stops responding, computer freezes and crashes. All I can do is to hardboot the computer. After hardboot X never works and only way to make X work again, what I have found, is to reinstal it and xf86-video-ati driver.

The crashing happens also is I'am already in X and my laptops screen turns on (I think this is hardwired), I cannot get back to X and have to hardboot. Also tried to install wicd -> crashes at the moment I startx. Reinstalled arch -> problem stays. Installed ifplugd and replugged the cable and let ifplugd do the network restart -> crash. Tried starting X with and whitout xorg.conf (I'm using hal) -> no effect.

Any ideas what could cause this, and how to fix it. Or do I have to reinstall X everytime I want to use fast internet (Haven't tested if I restart network before I startx, download what I need, then reboot and then startx, but even if it works I would still have reboot everytime I want to download something bigger.)
I'm currently writing from my universitys computer so I cannot post any config files nor logs, but please tell what should I post and I'll when I get home. Some additional information my .xinitrc has numlockx, urxvtd and awesome in it (root doesn't have xinitrc and x crashes for root also so I don't think any of those are the reason).  Also haven't tried whitout hal, could it be the problem. There are many things to try, but I don't think constat hardbootting will do any good to my laptop. so any clue where to start solving would be nice.

Thanks.

ps. I installed the arch in top of debian keeping the /home/ formating everything else, so if there are any network/X related config files in /home/ (not the .xinitrc or .bash_profile, already checked those) that could cause this, I would like to know.

Is there any other config files I should paste? And what logs (and where) should I paste after the crash?

Please, even if you don't know how to fix this, any ideas are welcome since I cannot think any new (inteligent) ideas.

Re: Restarting network causes X to crash

Ok. Did some more testing:

Removed Hal, disapled input hotplugging -> no help, still crash.
Restarted network, downloaded, rebooted startx -> crash. So even if I don't start X, just restarting network forces me to reinstall X.
The problem also happened when I mounted usb-stick -> crash.

Xorg.0.log doesn't have any EE:s in it.

No-one have answered yet but I'm running out of ideas here, what to test next. Please help.
