Hey everyone!
I have been following the GNOME wiki and have installed gnome, gnome-extra, gnome-system-tools.
Originally I managed to get fam and hal running without a problem, however, no HAL doesn't want to start. Even after:
/etc/rc.d/hal restart
- It says it fails, yet FAM is working properly.
Another problem I have is when I type:
gnome-session
I get the following output
** (gnome-session:3014): WARNING **: Cannot open display:
Also:
startx
Output:
-bash: startx: command not found
Any help would be great! I really want to get Arch working on my laptop!

Thanks for the quick reply.
No I haven't installed Xorg. Should I? It didn't mention it in the Gnome wiki.

My fiddling has gotten the better of me.
I just ran:
pacman -S xorg
And I get an error saying /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc already exists. Obviously from me creating it trying to get gnome working.
How would I delete that directory/file?

Okay I managed to install xorg.
I still get the same problem running gnome-session.
However, I can now run "startx" and the gnome desktop runs (mouse and trackpad don't work).
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Does the keyboard work? If not, sounds like a hot-plugging issue.
You should probably read that whole section on Xorg. Understanding what X is/how it works is pretty important.

I nothing helps try install hwd (pacman -S hwd) and try generate your xorg.conf by hwd -xa
