old alsa drivers

I am trying to understand how arch linux and alsa drivers works.

cat /proc/asound/version
Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.18a.

So the kernel is using 1.0.18a right?

When I did a system upgrade it installed alsa 1.0.20.

How do I use the new drivers?

Build a custom kernel?

Re: old alsa drivers

The kernel has the alsa-drivers package included yes, only userland tools are installed separately from the kernel.
