[SOLVED]Can't change Keyboard-Layout

Hi,

after I installed Arch at my Dell Latitude 6400 I can only change my keyboard layout with

# setxkbmap de

I've added this command to my ./~xinitrc but it didn't work.
I have also edited my xorg.conf but nothing worked. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … onfigure_X

Can anyone help me?

Re: [SOLVED]Can't change Keyboard-Layout

I went around in circles trying all the more complicated methods to get my keyboard correct for UK use in KDE4

I finally set it right by using the keyboard layout  settings in Regional & Language settings .

Are you using KDE ?

Re: [SOLVED]Can't change Keyboard-Layout

Have you put the German keymap in your rc.conf?

Re: [SOLVED]Can't change Keyboard-Layout

Weird, this is the relevant part of my rc.conf and it is working a treat.

LOCALE="en_GB.utf8"
HARDWARECLOCK="UTC"
USEDIRECTISA="no"
TIMEZONE="Europe/Berlin"
KEYMAP="uk"
CONSOLEFONT=
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"

Re: [SOLVED]Can't change Keyboard-Layout

Not 100% sure about this, but keymap can be a bastard. I put gb in mine at first and wondered why it didn't work - after all, the locale is called gb! But no, for some reason it is uk which is normally reserved for the Ukraine.

If I were you I'd investigate this further just to make sure. Also, have you got anything in your rc.local?

Re: [SOLVED]Can't change Keyboard-Layout

have a look at this page:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … _driver.3F

at this section :

Modifying hal configuration

Copy the file:

/usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/10-keymap.fdi

to

/etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-keymap.fdi

and edit this copy there as follows (substitute NEW_LAYOUT with your layout, for instance fr):

<merge key="input.xkb.layout" type="string">NEW_LAYOUT</merge>

I think this is where my settings were wrong on a previous install ..............

see if you can see anything wrong there....

Re: [SOLVED]Can't change Keyboard-Layout

Hey, thx! Now it works. Xkb.Rules in 10-keymap.fdi was wrong.
