[SOLVED] Installed catalyst -> corrupted screen

I just downloaded catalyst drivers from AUR and installed them. Now when I try to boot into the system, the screen goes corrupt at the login screen and I am unable to do anything. I'm not sure if just the screen is corrupt or the entire system is frozen. I think the main question is how can I boot directly to a terminal so I can remove catalyst and reinstall the open-source ati drivers? At the corrupt screen ctrl-alt-f1 does nothing, and as ctrl-alt-backspace was removed by default that's no help.

Depends on how you are starting X. Boot to 3 or 1 depending on if you start X from inittab or rc.conf

Well there we go. Booting to 1 solved the problem. In another thread it was suggested to boot to 3, which I tried and it didn't work. And as runlevels have been an unknown area to me so far, I didn't try any others. Thanks a lot!

Booting to 3 does not work if you start X from rc.conf.
