Re: slackware goes 64 bit !

I'm not going to switch. The arch rolling release model and pacman are to great wink.
Was just wondering if other people were thinking about it.

Re: slackware goes 64 bit !

During the intel drivers instability I have switched to Slackware. But I missed a lot of things:

- pacman (no dependencies problems, no missing libraries)
- lot of packages ready (just think about openbox, ffmpeg, mplayer.....and all other packages that are missing on slackware)
- community repository
- aur
- rc.conf
- arch forum

It's true that sometimes I have problems on arch ... but usually I'm able to fix by myself or by asking help.

So...although, Slackware is a great distro, why would someone switch to?

Hello friends,
I am going to try it in a spare hard disk. I am little unhappy with arch  after the discontinued support to fglrx drivers so that I cannot use tvtime with open source drivers. In addition slack is my favourite distro other than arch

Errr, hmmm, the catalyst drivers are in AUR, and is not that hard to get them to work just fine. Have you ever heard of yaourt? They are trash but I use them and maintain that package in AUR.

Re: slackware goes 64 bit !

I will give slackware another go because of the switch, when it comes out (haven't used it for a while). But I will be staying with arch as far as I know.

Re: slackware goes 64 bit !

this is great. i plan on dual booting arch and slack64 - i love arch, and i prefer to have everything totally up to date, but Arch has never been reliable/predictable enough for me. i tried using slamd64 and it was a nightmare.

Re: slackware goes 64 bit !

Around 5 years ago I remember I installed slackware succesfully, that was a memorabletask for me. Many years and many things had happend and now I can't change Arch for any other distro around.

But I have VirtualBox so I can't play with other distros and make some comments about them. I think I will give slackware a try in a virtual machine guest.

Thanks for the new.
