catalyst step-by-step installation tutorial

Hi!

I'm new to arch, and i have a problem with installing catalyst on my system.

I have ati radeon x550 graphics card.

Can anybody help me by giving me a step-by-step tutorial on how to install catalyst driver?

Sure, pacman -S xf86-video-ati, that will give you the only working driver for your card, as catalyst dropped support for it since 9.4 and current version in AUR is 9.5.

Can older (etc. 9.3) driver, downloaded from ati site,  be installed instead, and how?

no. 9.3 doesn't have support for the kernel and most important for the latest xorg. blame ati for the poor support

OK, but can he do something to enable 3d acceleration and kwin effects?

P.S. nenadsky is my friend, but I don`t use ATI and don`t now anything about it....

Sure, installing xf86-video-ati could give him some kind of 3d support, but I am not the best to describe what configuration xorg.conf needs after installing it. http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/ATI … figuration The wiki is very helpful in that respect.
