Keep getting 503 Service unavailable with vmware server

Hi, I installed the latest 64bit linux vmware server 2 from the official download, but can't connect to it in firefox at 127.0.0.1:8222.  it keeps saying 503 service unavailable.  on their forums people seemed to think its a /etc/hosts issue, i tried putting hostname in there but it still doesn't work.. any ideas?  thanks much
