Mounting

Sorry for another thread but it is about another topic then the other two I have recently posted.  I have my user in the storage, optical, floppy, power, and disks groups.

The problems are that,
- PCManFM mounts a USB stick automatically when clicked instead of being prompted for the user password, as in sudo (the HAL wiki page did help in allowing the user to mount the USB http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL … ion_Denied )
- PCManFM does not notice any CDs nor DVDs when I put them in, only after a reboot with them in does it notice until I eject them after which they are no long noticed again
- PCManFM does not let me mount my NTFS partition returning the error "Error org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume.UnknownFailure"

I realize the problem goes beyond PCManFM.

After reading
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=67471 (Nautilus does not have the side panel like PCManFM does where I could click to enable such a thing - could not find it in the preferences of Nautilus either)
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL (the section http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HAL … zed_by_HAL does not apply because that file does not exist in that directory, it is empty)
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=68245

Thanks,
zeug.

Is this a problem? I always thought it should work like that.

Put the CD in and try

$ dmesg|tail

What is the output?

Do you use ntfs3g? Maybe it would be better to mount it permanently in fstab, not via PCManFM.
