Request for Geoinformatica

Ari Jolma develops a perl GIS suite on top of GDAL/OGR which is interesting, considering how useful GDAL is and the fact that a Frank Warmerdam, who develops it, stopped building FWTools/openEV (a viewer based on gtk1) for linux. Geoinformatica could substitute it.
Geoinformatica is hosted here:
http://geoinformatics.tkk.fi/bin/view/M … caSoftware
and there is an interesting Gallery of applications here:
http://geoinformatics.tkk.fi/bin/view/M … plications
This is somehow a complex and moving target, most of the needed packages are already built, even if GDAL is waiting for a major update. Building and installation is sparsely described at the end of the Windows installation, here:
http://geoinformatics.tkk.fi/bin/view/M … nformatica
An added problem comes with perl. CPAN is a good tool, but Arch "has its own way" and it would be better to plan this move carefully.
I'm interested in building some dependencies, if needed, but I think some more experienced user gets a grip on this that seems a complicated issue, if not so complex.
TIA
Carlo
