I installed the Open Source ATI Drivers (xf86-video-ati) for my Raedon 9800 Pro and Compiz Fusion. But whenever I start compiz using "compiz --replace" it fails with a
Fatal: GLX_EXT_texture_from_pixmap is missing
it then kills the current WM (Metacity) so I have no titlebars. Also whenever I use compiz-fusion icon the entire screen turns white. I am assuming it is still operable because if I move the mouse around the cursor change to text input to standard pointer.

In addition to my question I tried to install Catalyst and got the memory issue as my card wasn't supported is it possible to install the OLD offical driver?

It isn't really an option to use the older official driver since it doesn't support (and never will) newer xorg version / kernels.
You could probably fix that temporarily by using old packages but it isn't really a solution for the future.
