Opera memory usage

I have noticed Opera is giving me memory usage problems. I typically browse Deviantart and open up many tabs of images, and Opera will wind up using damn near all my RAM (4GB). I have to constantly glance at conky to see the memory bar. And when I close the images (tabs) the memory usage remains-- I have to exit and restart Opera for it to free up the RAM. Is this normal? I can't imagine so, I just installed Arch on my laptop and started using Opera same way and it doesn't take nearly as much memory so far, seems much better.

If there are some settings for this or something I really would like to fix it, I love me Opera smile

TIA smile

Re: Opera memory usage

Three thoughts:

Have you tried emptying the undo-close-tab bin?

What happens if you turn of javascript/animations/java/plugins momentarily?  (Press F12 to access this.)

Did you set the cache to something wonky?  (Tools > Preferences > Advanced > History)

Re: Opera memory usage

Where is the undo-close-tab bin? I couldn't find...

I turned off most things with F12 and I went to the cache settings and made it biggest it goes, still pretty much the same. Bizarre, on Windows Opera really didn't take up much memory even with similar large amount of tabs(images) opened. sad

Re: Opera memory usage

Long time ago, opera gave me a strange behavior, but I forgot what it was.  Anyway, when I cleared the private data, all strange thnings were gone.

It looks like a trash can.  Enable it by:
Tools > Appearance > Buttons > Browser
And drag "closed" onto your toolbar.

Did you consider that making the cache smaller would make it cache less things and use less memory?

I have "memory cache" set to 60MB and "disk cache" turned off.
