The advice given is to build AUR packages as a non-root user. Yaourt gives a little warning if you build a package as root, as opposed to a standard user. The problem is that when there are dependencies, the build fails because they cannot be installed without root privileges. Is there a workaround? I am trying to wean myself off of sudo.

But to be clear, there is no workaround for use in yaourt?

yaourt, AFAICT, depends on you having sudo.

Yeah, I would recommend keeping sudo around for things like this. It doesn't take up that much disk space, and it doesn't mean you have to use it every time you need elevated privileges.

Fair enough. I don't really have anything against sudo but I'm coming from Ubuntu and I figured I would try the more traditional way and see how it suits me. I guess I'll go back to sudo!
Thanks for the replies!
