lm_sensors k8temp wrong temperature, AMD notebook shuts down

Hello,

It is well known that lm_sensors has problems with k8temp giving inacurate readings.

right now my laptop is operating with an average 5% cpu load and its temperature readings are quite off.

acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +62.0°C (crit = +120.0°C)
temp2: +65.0°C (crit = +120.0°C)

k8temp-pci-00c3
Adapter: PCI adapter
Core0 Temp: +64.0°C
Core0 Temp: +63.0°C
Core1 Temp: +64.0°C
Core1 Temp: +64.0°C

This wouldnt be a problem but today, for the first (and second) time my laptop shut down itself twice and the bottom of it, near the cpu was untouchably hot.

I'm afraid since the temperature readings are wrong the cpu fan speed could not be well controlled. So, is there any alternative to lm_sensors where I can get accurate readings from my cpu? And for my fan speed as well?

Is there any way I can control the cpu fan speed other than fancontrol?

Im running a few mono C# programs that calculate hashes for a large qty of files which make my laptop way too hot.

Thanks

Re: lm_sensors k8temp wrong temperature, AMD notebook shuts down

This looks promising - if you use gnome - http://computertemp.berlios.de/

And it is in AUR

there are a couple more in AUR that do not list lm-sensors as deps...

http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?O … _Search=Go

plasmoid system monitor if you are in KDE

Don't break the silence unless you can improve upon it.
