Why don't Arch and KDEmod merge?

I was thinking the other day, why don't Arch and KDEmod merge? As in the KDE in the repo's is KDEmod (or remove KDE from the repo's and just use KDEmod's repos). I know they used to customise KDE3 but as far as I know the only thing they do to KDE4 packages is to split them up (which in my opinion fits in with the Arch way as you have more choice/control over what to install) and surely it would make things quicker as the Arch KDE packagers/developers and KDEmod developers could work together instead of both groups packaging/fixing two lots of KDE (which are identical)
Sorry if this has been asked/discussed before but I couldn't find anything from searching.
What are your opinions?

Arch packages are typically as close to the way upstream ships them as possible; that's why we ship kde the way they package it. However, the pacman devs have implemented a package splitting feature into pacman that may allow this rule to be broken in an elegant way with certain packages, KDE being at the top of discussion.

KDEMod, is a custom repository of packages; we would rather encourage such community repositories than bloat the official repositories. Creating and hosting a custom repo is beautifully simple; the more of them out there, the better Arch Linux is as a whole.

I can return te question : why should arch and kdemod merge ?
Arch wants to be as vanilla as possible, so, it's not likely to append.

Also kdemod is a key part of the chakra project. It won;t be called kdemod anymore if merged, because it is not a mod anymore, and it will be cut out of customizations made by the kdemod team. And will be as vanilla as possible. And will be ruled by Pierre. So, that leaves you with our kde again.

Do you have a link with some more information about the package spilitting feature in pacman, this is the first I've heard of it.
I understand, I thought the only "mod" they now made was to split the packages (unlike KDE3 where you could easily tell between vanilla KDE and KDEmod)

Thanks, also answered my original question about KDEmod being merged.
Was just something I was thinking about the other day as the only reason I use KDEmod is so I don't have to install all of KDE just to get the bits I want but seems I won't have to anymore
