[solved] directfb upgrade 1.2.7-1 => 1.2.8-1 renders DVD unusable

The title says it. Symptoms are: when I insert a DVD, it spins up, but HAL doesnt recognise it (KDE4.3). Instead, CPU usage goes 100% (actually a process is in some disk wait state, dont remember exactly, I already downgraded), and nothing happens. I can eject the DVD by pressing the eject button.

Re: [solved] directfb upgrade 1.2.7-1 => 1.2.8-1 renders DVD unusable

I don't think many people use (or know about) DirectFB.  I played with it two years ago (DirectVNC could have been an xorg killer on my thin client), but D-VNC only worked at one crippled resolution and color depth.

Reading about DirectFB, it sounds like it's come a long way.  It runs on all sorts of crazy hardware, supports the standard toolkits.  Almost looks like FBUI could replace X11.

I tried again today.  Install DirectFB from community.  Can't figure out how to start anything.  Nothing on the Arch wiki.  Check the DirectFB site.  Very little there, but they do list a bunch of demo apps.  Build directfb-examples from AUR.  They only run as root.  Half of them lock up my keyboard while the mouse glitches out and hides in the upper left corner of the screen.  "df_matrix" and "df_neo" are surprisingly lame, but don't crash anything.

Okay, SaWMan.  I guess this is the FBUI?  Source unavailable.  There are two case sensitivity errors in the PKGBUILD.  Build finishes, but can't run.  A forum says "modprobe fusion", but fusion.ko won't load.  It collides with the "rtc" character device.  No DirectFB for me.

Or is bootsplashy the only thing people use DirectFB for?

I think it was installed on my machine as some dependency, but I can't figure out why, or what is dependent on it. Maybe I'll try to uninstall it.

I did uninstall it, no problems whatsoever, seems I never actually used this package? Hmm.
