Selecting default music player

When I download a music file or radio stream, and it asks me what to open it with. and I want to use VLC, where do I look in the files for the file to open VLC media player?

In firefox, preferences > applications. The VLC binary is found at /usr/bin/vlc. You can confirm this for yourself by running "which vlc" in the terminal.

under firefox preferences there wasn't much listed, but that's OK, I selected VLC and it plays fine!
