nicotine-plus-svn

tried to install it, but since versionpkg is obsolete now, had to edit the pkgbuild, makepkg it, but when

$  sudo pacman -U nicotine nicotine-plus-svn-1088-1-i686.pkg.tar
loading package data...
error: 'nicotine': cannot open package file

..??

or maybe someone can just recommend another slsk client that isn't museek (as if there is choice left).

(Have you already built the package? If not, do so with makepkg before you continue.)

The command you tried to use to install nicotine was misspelled (see man pacman):

sudo pacman -U nicotine nicotine-plus-svn-1088-1-i686.pkg.tar

The command for installing a local package is actually:

sudo pacman -U nicotine-plus-svn-1088-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

oh..yeah, right.

that worked.

only, now i cant run nicotine.

the .desktop file in applications/ execs "nicotine", but when i search the installed files with -Ql there is no executable, just python files...

I had the same problem it installs an incorrect .desktop file
I just copied /usr/share/applications/nicotine.desktop to ~/.local/share/applications and edited the Exec line to:
Exec=nicotine.py

then it all works again
