Alcor Micro Corp. Hi-Speed 21-in-1 Flash Card Reader/Writer

I have a piece of hardware that does not seem to be functioning/accessible

I have a known good sd card in the device.
In Gnome I have graphical icons to represent the hardware.
When I insert the card the physical device lights an led.
my fstab file is default.
I have hal enabled.

Re: Alcor Micro Corp. Hi-Speed 21-in-1 Flash Card Reader/Writer

Hi!

Got the same device & same problem - except that mine works once per boot, with the first card I use (on an irregular basis).  I tested it with windows XP and it looked as if it was doing pretty much the same thing (except that in addition to that, with windows XP, after using the device the PC often didn't boot trough the bios part at all unless I pulled the plug and hit the on button a few times first). So my guess would be: that piece of hardware is a piece of something soft wink.

Anyway: If someone against all odds found a solution in the meantime, please let it be known!

thx...

Re: Alcor Micro Corp. Hi-Speed 21-in-1 Flash Card Reader/Writer

I am also a lucky owner of this piece of hardware.
The only way I have gotten it working is by doing this:

1) Insert a SD cart into the reader.
2) Open up your computer while it is running and disconnect the USB-cable to the device.
3) Wait a while and then reinsert the cable.

Now it gets detected and mounted just fine.

Thanks, I'll try that next time! That sounds still a lot better than being forced to reboot every time.
