[SOLVED] Empty /proc/bus/usb and scanner access

Hi,

I am sure people have already discussed this issue, but here it comes...
I have recently tried to install Canon CanoScan Lide 25 on my Arch box and encountered the problem with permissions: root can scan, but any normal user does not have access to scanner: scanimage -L returns "No scanners available", while under root it gives:
device `plustek:libusb:001:008' is a Canon CanoScan LiDE25 flatbed scanner
I followed the ArchWiki on Sane, in particular, added myself to the scanner group and changed permissions for /var/lock/sane, but all unsuccessfull.
Meanwhile I noticed that my /proc/bus/usb is empty, alhtough I have a lot of usb devices plugged in:
{turtle} ~|>>>lsusb
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 04a9:2220 Canon, Inc. CanoScan LIDE 25
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 07d1:3c04 D-Link System WUA-1340
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 058f:9254 Alcor Micro Corp. Hub
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 045e:00f4 Microsoft Corp. LifeCam VX-6000 (SN9C20x + OV9650)
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0461:4d15 Primax Electronics, Ltd Dell Optical Mouse
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0451:2046 Texas Instruments, Inc. TUSB2046 Hub
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub

The problem with /proc/bus/usb can be fixed, if I do:
mount -t usbfs /dev/bus/usb /proc/bus/usb, but shouldn't it be enabled by default? Also I wonder, how is it related to my scanner issues...

Thanks.
