[SOLVED] makewhatis

hi,

I'am using archlinux on my eeepc: Linux eeepc 2.6.29-ARCH, and i would like to find makewhatis command but i don't find it.
Could you help me ?

hi gil,

welcome to arch.

i don't know makewhatis, but i do see that whatis is owned by the package man-db. the command mandb has an option -c (--create) to make a new database, is that what you're looking for?

thank you to help me. how do you do to know which command is owned by a package ?
i would like to use apropos command which is not well configured on my computer.

i would like to use makewhatis to build apropos database but it seems that this command is not installed on my computer ?!

man-db 2.5.5-1 is installed but if i list file content (pacman -Ql man-db) there is no makewhatis ???

Simply install pkgtools, read the instructions displayed right after the install and you'll see :-)

makewhatis appears to be deprecated. Use catman instead. It is in the man-db package.
