Hey, i recently bought a seagate SATA hd for storage use, i already have a running linux system and wish to use the newly installed hd, what must i do to get this HD working.
I know i must format and partition this hd. but i do not know how to go about doing that in linux? any help would be greatful! thanx
I do not wish to install any operating system on this hd, i have no experience with sata at all. i only wish to get the hd working to the point where i can move all my mp3's on to this harddrive, i have the newest arch install, with everything up to date. I do not know what to do to test to see if my sata hd is set-up correctly. if anyone here know what i should be doing to get it to work, PLEASE let me know, it would help me out alot!
does drive show up in dmesg ?
dmesg | grep sata
search forum for threads on sata drives .....
I did the dmesg | grep sata command and this is what i got.
scsi0 : sata_sis
scsi1 : sata_sis
