LaTeX: pifont's \ding{} not working

I can't get symbols generated by \ding{number} working in LaTeX. I have pifont package installed, but it seems that it's not being recognized. Does anyone knows a solution to this?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

Do you get error messages? What tells the logfile?

Re: LaTeX: pifont's \ding{} not working

I had a similar problem in a LaTeX table. My file compiled well, there was no particular error in the log, but ding{number} was rendered verbatim. In normal text \ding{} works as expected.
From the pifont documentation at http://www.pirbot.com/mirrors/ctan/macr … nfss2e.pdf, I found a working syntax for my table: \Pisymbol{family}{number}; for example to display dingbats symbol 253, the syntax is:  \Pisymbol{pzd}{253}. This syntax works as well in normal text.
