Hello.
Just got through my first install of Arch using archlinux-2009.02-ftp-x86_64.img... now all the howtos tell me to install hwd. Don't seem to be having much luck.
Network is working.
I've added ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/ into /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
$ pacman --sync --refresh
downloads core, extra and community. Subsequent runs indicate that they are up to date.
$ pacman -S hwd
gives me:
hwd package not found, searching for group...
error: 'hwd': not found in sync db
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
UBob

Try
pacman -S hwdetect
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Beg … the_System
And don't use ftp.archlinux.org as your main mirror because it is throttled. Try uncommenting some other mirrors.

we removed hwd/lshwd from our repos just last week. Please see the arch-dev-public mailing list for more details.

Ok, thanks.
Have installed hwdetect. Doesn't seem to behave like hwd though. Nevermind, I'll just stick with what I know and use lspci et. al.

Understood. I only added it once I was having trouble so as to rule out mirroring issues... which I have seen a few of.
Thanks
