X user issues[SOLVED]

After many hours of work, I have finally managed to get X working on my Arch install, and got it working with GNOME, and even (finally) got the trackpad and keyboard to work. in Root.

Now, finally satisfied with all i managed to get accomplished, I set out to set up a user account (#adduser joe) After logging into this user account, I find that #startx doesn't start up...

I know I'm probably just missing something stupid, but im exhausted from getting everything else working... so any ideas what could be wrong?

Re: X user issues[SOLVED]

Perhaps putting in your own ~/.xinitrc will work as expected. You might be able to get away with just making it and putting

exec gnome-session

in there and trying again. The recommended route though is to copy the skeleton file /etc/skel/.xinitrc and edit accordingly. Also be sure you are in the correct groups.

I am in (trimmed for overkill):

(first and foremost, "users" group.. then..)
disk lp mem kmem wheel log games network video audio optical floppy storage power policykit

All of the above might not exist for you, but if the xinitrc doesn't help, it couldn't hurt to add yourself.

Re: X user issues[SOLVED]

Despite my lack of groups, that seemed to work. Thank you!
