Get Xinemera working with xrandr

Hi folks,

I want to get Xinemera working with Xmonad.  I don't use a xorg.conf, but HAL.  When I start the laptop with an external VGA, the external monitor gets all the attention and the laptop screen stays *dark*.

I hope to do it with xrandr, as I don't use a xorg.conf.

Here is my output:

~ $ xrandr
xrandr: Output LVDS is not disconnected but has no modes
Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 1024, maximum 1280 x 1280
VGA1 connected 1280x1024+0+0 376mm x 301mm
   1280x1024 60.0*+ 75.0 60.0*
   1152x864 75.0
   1024x768 75.0 60.0
   800x600 75.0 60.3
   640x480 75.0 59.9
   720x400 70.1
DVI1 disconnected
LVDS connected
~ $ xrandr --output VGA1 --left-of LVDS
xrandr: Output LVDS is not disconnected but has no modes
~ $

What kind of modes would I need to add?  I went through the man page of xrandr, but that all doesn't really say me anything.  Why is xrandr not adding modes for the LVDS automatically when a external video is connected?

Thanks very much!

Cheers,
Thomas
