[SOLVED]Xorg != working

Hey guys,

I did a fresh install of Arch with 2009.02 (x86_64) usb img.

Everything went okay, no hitches at all until . . . . xorg.

I did a pacman -Sy xorg then Xorg -configure after that. I then installed my nvidia drivers (pacman -Sy nivida) and did a nvidia-xconfig. Now for the weird part.

Once I checked over xorg.conf and saw things were a-ok (commented out Type1) I did a classic - startx. What happened was the screen went blank, had no control from the keyboard or mouse, in fact the pointer never showed. All I could do was do a cold restart. Upon restart I noticed my xorg.conf was blank. Nothing in it. At all.

Soooo, I did a search through the forums here and did everything I could find. I did the Option "AllowEmptyInput" "False" even put the DontZap line in.. Nothing works. Upon restart both the /root/xorg.conf.new is blank AND xorg.conf in /etc.

I would paste my xorg.log.0 file, but I don't have access to it from this machine. I did notice, however, that it complained about Type1 fonts not being found.

My system is:
NVidia 9600 GT card,
Quad Core Intel
ASUS P5N-T Deluxe.

Thanks for the wiki page. I read it through a few times, especially the troubleshooting. However, none of that works.

I now notice I get the line sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib/libGLcore.so.180.51 is truncated whenever I try to install something.

Enable sshd on the other machine and paste Xorg's log.

Okay, I fixed it.

This is what I did:

I checked my BIOS to double check if the time was right (I've had issues in the past with this damn bios) and of course, it was the wrong time. I fixed that.
I'm not saying that was the fix, though it could have contributed.
Next, I checked to see if the nvidia packages were okay. Seems they weren't. nvidia-utils was currupt. I had to pacman -Rd nvidia and nvidia-utils; reinstalled them both and did a Xorg -configure once more. It is working quite well now.

Weird thing anyway, check the health of your hard disks with smartmontools.
