[SOLVED] Can't play ogg files

Processor: AMD X2 64bit
Graph card: Ati Radeon x1600XT
Sound :HDA Nvidia (AD198x Analog)
OS: 64bit Arch with KDEmod
OK, this is strange, after last update i don't have system sounds. Basically any .ogg file don't work, except in VLC and in Qmmp. Amarok just list through list of songs and stops on the last one, but Amarok plays all rest. Any hints? Only thing that i did is, in /etc/modprobe.d/framebuffer.blacklist.pac(something) i rename in framebuffer.blacklist.conf

You could start KDE without your current configuration. If problem will be no more then configuration files are your bet.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't play ogg files

Look inside /etc/modprobe.d, I guess there's a config file named sound, which was created by alsaconf. Rename it to sound.conf and restart. Reason is, now modprobe wants config files to actually end with .conf

@TheBodzio
Sorry man but i dont know how to start kde with "safe mode".
@Army
Your proposal have sense, but there is no file sound in /etc/modprobe.d.

Ok i tried to manually add sound.conf to /etc/modprobe.d, but no use.

I tried to reinstall alsa, after that i try alsaconfig. It create 50-sound.conf in /etc/modprobe.d with two lines in it:
alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
alias sound-slot-0 snd-hda-intel

I'm not a hardware guru but lscpi gives me this for my sound card:
00:10.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 High Definition Audio (rev a2)

So, how can be intel in my 50-sound.conf ?

Also, the sound didn't start working after alsaconfig create 50-sound.conf .

That's OK. There are two possibilities to do that:
• create new user, log into new account (of course outside of X or in gdm) and you have your check,
• change name of your KDE config dir (it should be ".kde" as far as I know—I'm not using KDE) to e.g. ".kde.backup" and log again on your account.

Since you've said that there is sound in VLC, qmmp and Amarok then it's not kernel modules related problem. I'd focus on configuration/codecs. I presume that your system sounds were ogg files, right?

Re: [SOLVED] Can't play ogg files

Thank you TheBodzio. You ere right, the problem is in my configuration files i home folder. Is there any less painful way to solve this, or i need to delete all my .kde4 folder?

I did some experiments, i just delete .xine folder from my home folder and all works now. Thank you all for your time and help.

Trashing all config is a bit extreme. Unfortunately I don't use KDE so I can't help by mentioning specific files—you must dig trough .kde4 contents yourself. Universal code of conduct would be to compare old and new config files (e.g. with „diff"). I'm afraid that's the only advice I can give you now. Good luck!
