Hi guys,
Not sure if this is a DE/X related problem or kernel.
Running KDE 4.2.4 and my monitor would switch off after a while of inactivity. I have disabled DPMS for the monitor and I've ensure that screensavers or power management in KDE is disabled. Where else can I look? I don't like this behavior. (irritating when watching a movie and the screen just powers down)

I'd check output of "xset -q" (DPMS section). There should be "Standby", "Suspend" and "Off" keys all set to 0 if you don't want your screen to blank.
It's not the best thing when they call you a "member" you know…

Is there a way to "disable" Standby, Suspend and Off just when watching movies (in fullscreen or not)? I want them to do what they usually do in all other cases.
Setting them to 0 in xorg.conf does the thing, but I need that functionality only when I'm wathing movies. Making a script that alters adjustments in xorg.conf isn't the best solution - you'd have to restart X every time you want to watch a movie .
Cheers,
Daniel

If you use mplayer try stop-xscreensaver=1 in your config.
keeps it from blanking for me.

Thank you for the replay. Will try later whether your suggestion works or not in mplayer.
VLC does it as expected:
xset -q | grep DPMS
DPMS (Energy Star):
DPMS is Disabled
