Re: not an ELF file

I'm not sure, but it looks to me like you installed i686 packages on x86_64 or vice versa or something, which can cause all sorts of trouble. Though since you seem to be using normal kde as opposed to kdemod from the package list, I suppose that's much less likely to be the case.

That said, perhaps post /etc/ld.so.conf so we can see what's there, which is more likely to be directly related..

How did you remove kde?

Edit: Upon looking up this error on the forums, people are suggesting corrupted libraries or failed installs to similar issues, and to reinstall the packages containing the given problematic libraries.. or that something that owned libraries was removed when it shouldn't have been.. by chance, did you remove kde with the -d flag? Do you have enough space on your / partition?

Re: not an ELF file

Thanks for a quick reply!
I use gnome but wanted to try kde and while downloading it I ran out of room on root.
I have 10 gigs on there, not sure where it all went...
I use 32 bit arch and as far as I know its not mismatched.

I ran pacman -Rsn kde to remove.

How can I clean up "/" besides deleting catch files?
I guess then I can reinstall kde and uninstall it properly?

Thanks for all the help!

/etc/ld.so.conf

#
# /etc/ld.so.conf
#

# End of file
/opt/qt/lib
/opt/kde/lib
/usr/lib/libfakeroot

Re: not an ELF file

Make sure those files are not empty. Pacman will create empty files if you run out of space while installing something.

They are, how do I remedy this?

Also, I tryed reinstalling kde (pacman -S kde) and I get:

...
kdesdk: /usr/share/man/man1/split2po.1.gz exists in filesystem
kdesdk: /usr/share/man/man1/swappo.1.gz exists in filesystem
kdesdk: /usr/share/man/man1/transxx.1.gz exists in filesystem
kdesdk: /usr/share/man/man1/xml2pot.1.gz exists in filesystem
kdesdk: /usr/share/man/man1/zonetab2pot.py.1.gz exists in filesystem
kdesdk: /usr/share/strigi/fieldproperties/strigi_translation.fieldproperties exists in filesystem
Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
[root@arch vlad]# pacman -R kde
kde not found, searching for group...
error: 'kde': not found in local db

What can I do? I have 1.6 gig of free space in root right now.

Be sure to test -Syu and try again before doing so to see if its been fixed already or not.

Note when it says 'rename' the file, you can also use the -f flag to force the package install, but *dont* do it for more than 1 package at a time, and only if you're sure of what you're doing.

If it's not the correct thing to do, you could also try to say "no" to pacman asking to install *everything* for kde, and work kdesdk out of the picture if possible.
