Two little problems [solved]

This is an annoyance more than a problem.

1. Mplayer used to have the gmplayer skin along with it, but it seams that i no longer have this. This only bugs me when trying to get sub titles working because I don't get to use the pretty GUI to select them roll

any thoughts on what to do to get this back easily?

2. Xsane wont let my use my scanner unless I run it as root, which annoys me because I then have to chmod every picture I scan. I am added to the scanner group. I have hplip installed.

Thank for any help smile

Re: Two little problems [solved]

1) try gnome-mplayer or smplayer
2) sounds strange...  but try adding yourself to the "lp" group.

Re: Two little problems [solved]

sweet gnome-mplayer works for me that way I don't have to install qt and start a whole new tool kit every time I wanna watch a movie smile

adding to "lp" didn't work though hmm

Re: Two little problems [solved]

I am assuming you have a usb scanner here.  Do this:

ls -lR /dev/bus/usb/

and look at what group the permssions for your scanner has.

Re: Two little problems [solved]

addition to 1: (in standard mplayer) v toggles subtitle visibility, j switches language, x + z sub delay
subtitle name has to be same as the movie, though.

Re: Two little problems [solved]

Hmmm....  I am seeing an lp there.  Do you have a separate printer?  Did you logout/login after adding the group?

Re: Two little problems [solved]

no I don't have a separate printer, and I didn't log out after adding lp so I'll do that real quick and get back to you.

Re: Two little problems [solved]

BTW, for selecting subtitles in the command-line mplayer version, just press "j" or add "-sid 1" or whatever number.
