rt2500usb Wireless Internet Freaks

Since the decline of the rt2570-cvs module,  I've been having to use both/either the rt2500usb module or ndiswrapper. They both work, but rt2500usb has high latencies and drops out on high upload activity, and ndiswrapper completely halts sometimes and I cannot remove the ndiswrapper module or modprobe a different driver.  It's a lose-lose situation.  I am using Linksys WUSB54gv4 chipset.  Any suggestions or even a cheap (less than $25USD) usb 802.11g solution?

When the native driver for my wireless card (ath9k) first had entered the kernel, it took 2 or 3 kernel version upgrades to get it all right for me, meanwhile I just stuck with ndiswrapper and in the end it was worth it...

I'm using a D-Link PCMCIA 802.11n-card (atheros chipset)

Yes I believe rt2x00 drivers have recently become mainline in the kernel.  However I was wondering if there was an ndiswrapper problem itself.  While rt2500usb module is much improved, it still is slow/drops packets.

Thanks for the suggestion, I will.  In the meantime, I'll use ndiswrapper even though it also halts every so often and maybe file a bug there as well.

Actually for whatever reason in the latest kernel revision, it is MUCH, MUCH better and works better than Ndiswrapper if not the same.  Which is odd because at one point it wasn't so bad if I remember correctly.  Thanks for the suggestions; I'll make sure to file bug reports if anything bad happens.
[Edit] False alarm.  I was actually still using NDiswrapper inadvertently, rt2500usb still does not work properly (slow with certain DNS').
