[Solved] Digikam crashes (caused by exiv2?)

Hello,
I had problems using Digikam - it crashed during loading (updating database).
Ewentually I learned that it happened only while loading specific jpg files (after removing them the program started correctly).
Also other apps had problems (e.g. Gwenview was able to to display "troublesome" pictures but crashed when reading EXIF data).

In case anyone has similar problems: downloading and compiling the newest version of Exiv2 library (18.2 from http://www.exiv2.org) solved it.
Unfortunately there's still version 18.1 in Extra repository and I'm not skilled enough to contribute my own PKGBUILD hmm

Wow, this has been driving me up a wall, this is exactly the same issue I have been having. The package is marked out of date, so hopefully it will be updated soon. Thanks for the tip!

Re: [Solved] Digikam crashes (caused by exiv2?)

I'm encountering the same bug, but just using exiv2 0.18-1 (from extra) on its own, not from within digikam.
It's documented for Ubuntu here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour … bug/358576
Unfortunately the Arch bug tracker is down at the moment, so I'm reporting it here instead.
Any chance of an update to fix this show-stopper soonish please? wink

Thank's for the solution!!
I encountered the same problem and provided an updated exiv2 0.18.2 (based on the original PKGBUILD) at AUR: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=7970

Sorry, the package was deleted as it was the wrong way to provide a package, that already exists.... There's a bugreport already, hope it gets fixed soon.
