Flash has no sound

Flash has no audio while other audio programs are using the soundcard. I've tried blacklisting the oss module like it says in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/All … nd_at_once
but its had no effect. The output of aplay -l is
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC885 Analog [ALC885 Analog]
  Subdevices: 0/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC885 Digital [ALC885 Digital]
  Subdevices: 1/1
  Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
I've also searched the forum and found several similar threads, and after trying all of the offered solutions it still doesn't work. I even tried installing pulse audio the way it says in the wiki, but that stops all audio. I'm using kdemod
Does anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: when i run firefox in terminal with a media player already using sound I get this output when I load a youtube video
ALSA lib pcm.c:2171:(snd_pcm_open_conf) Cannot open shared library /usr/lib/alsa-lib/libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so

Re: Flash has no sound

Try re-installing alsa-lib alsa-oss alsa-utils alsaplayer alsa-plugins perhaps something has gone missing.

Re: Flash has no sound

libasound_module_pcm_pulse.so definitely belongs to alsa-plugins.

Re: Flash has no sound

Are you using Flash Player 10 on a 64 bit system?
If so, this might be due to a bug in the flash player - see https://bugs.adobe.com/jira/browse/FP-1740
A simple workaround is to remove or rename /etc/asound.conf - at least, it worked with my installation...

Re: Flash has no sound

I had similar problems with flash-sound for years, now I found a (my) solution: switching over to OSS. I had endless discussions with people in different IRC-Channels (including the alsa-channel), but no one could help me to get alsa and flash-sound working stable. maybe you want to try OSS.

As far as I'm concerned, I had to create the file /etc/asound.conf with:

pcm.dsp {
        type plug
        slave.pcm "dmix"
}

pcm.default pcm.dsp

dmix is used to mix several sounds. If it doesn't work, try googling it!

I hope it'll help!

Re: Flash has no sound

Do you have a webcam or something else also acting as a "sound device"? If you do, you have to load the drivers into the kernel in this way in /etc/rc.conf(example):

[...] snd-hda-intel snd-usb-audio [...]

because flash is too stupid(or alsa has too shitty of an API for this to even be possible to do) to realise that device #0 is not a PLAYBACK device so you have to make sure that it always IS.

and ofcourse you have also !pcspk right?

Re: Flash has no sound

Flash is very particular about buffer_size it seems. Please try improved dmix.
