Hi,
I have a very old machine (IBM 300GL) with the following configuration:
mobo: IBM 656383G
CPU: Pentium III EB 600MHz
mem: 128MB PC133 (plan to buy a 256MB module)
video: nVidia VANTA, AGP, 16MB (plan to buy a GeForce MX400)
audio: ES1989 Allegro-1
network: 3Com 3C905C-TX
HDD: Quantum LM13 14Gb
CD-ROM: LG GCR-8522B
monitor: Samsung 730BF 17" 1280x1024@60Hz
I want to install ArchLinux on it with XFCE4 and some apps for home use (browse internet, IM, videochat, play music, play video) for my parents.
Please help me install and customize Arch Linux to boot as quick as possible and install and configure Xorg and XFCE4 (a step-by-step guide would be great).
I experimented with Arch in a VirtualBox but only in text mode. Could not make it to get X working. I need the essential drivers for net, video and audio also.
Thank you in advance,
Adrian

oO Don't expect to get personal support...
If you have concrete questions/problems during installation/configuration you are free to ask.

Thanks for your reply.
first I will get that memory upgrade and begin installation, then I'll come with the questions.
Maybe you can give me some advices 'till then; is the machine suitable to proceed with the installation?
