Raid - did it really recovery an old partition?

I had troubles with my raid after upgrading to 2.6.30 - now on one of my partitions all files from the last year are gone!

I'm by no means a raid expert but I guessing the files are gone forever. I'm just wondering how this could happen.

Is this a possible scenario?

* At some point the mirror partition failed making me run with 1 device only (on that particular partition)
* Continued to run with the 1 device - putting new files on it and all
* Then I had troubles and brought the failed partition back to life
* linux-raid then recovered the old partition over the new one leaving with me with a partition as it looked ½ year ago.

Is it possible? If so could just shoot myself for not caring more about my data.

Atm "cat /proc/mdstat" says recovery for the raid device (md3) - I wonder what it does.

Just how stupid am I?

Could this have happened because the partition got marked as spare when I re-added it to the array?
