Catalyst problems with HAL and an IBM T40 laptop

Hey there.

I have been happily running Arch on my old IBM laptop for a while now with no xorg.conf, relying on HAL to do the work for me. However, today I decided to replace the open source ATi drivers with Catalyst (I want to play games, dammit!) This turned out to be problematic.

When I rebooted, hoping HAL would pick it up and choose the right drivers, it didn't. I got a garbled display and had to reboot into runlevel 3.

I looked at the wiki, and it said to run "aticonfig" to generate a friendly xorg.conf file, but when I do it returns "aticonfig: No supported adapters detected". The adapter is a Mobility Radeon M7 LW (7500), which is on the supported list.

I may have missed something obvious, but since I don't know whether the problem is with the hardware, HAL or Catalyst, and I don't know how to find out which it is I'm a bit stuck. If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be grand, thanks.

Your card is _not_ supported by catalyst. Use xf86-video-ati instead.
