Re: doe plymouth work almost 100%

huh.. I was about to say I don't think anyone's ported it to Arch yet, but it seems I'm wrong after a quick look.

Judging from the comments, especially from the first one, it can be a little bit of a problem to set up and is "not ready yet". I'm not sure, but I think the kernel may also need to be recompiled with KMS support, and you need video drivers with support for such. It seems the only ones without that are the nvidia drivers.

Out of curiosity, what doesn't work that well for you on splashy?

Re: doe plymouth work almost 100%

i havnt tried splashy but the main thing that concerns me from the wiki is: 'Something goes "terribly wrong" when a forced filesystem check commences while Splashy is running. For some unknown reason (yet), the system reboots itself after the fsck.'.

any way im still going to give it a try , one of the comments says
"following up on my last comment, i've posted a working PKGBUILD of splashy that does not need this separate initscripts package.

http://mess.iphitus.org/splashy.tar.gz " should i trust that link or just use http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=19624 and http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=10211 ?

I'm using the splashy without initscripts you posted on 3 machines, and it looks fine. I was thinking of posting it to AUR, but I haven't had time to examine it thoroughly to see if it did anything weird, I only did a quick look-over. As for the something going 'horribly wrong', I've never had that happen in 2 years. However, you don't *have* to use splashy when it's installed. Just keep 2 entries for arch in menu.lst/grub.cfg, one with splashy and one without. The one 'without' being the fallback image would be fine.
